MFJR is a family owned and operated race team based in Standish, MI. The team was originally known as DG Speedsports. Entering the 2014 season, more focus was placed on Michael's racing adventure and the team was re-branded as Michael Findlay Jr Racing.
Established in 2001 by friends and co-workers, Mike Findlay and Ryan Baker, the team has campaigned cars at some of Michigan’s most renowned race tracks, including Auto City Speedway, Dixie Motor Speedway, Flat Rock Speedway, Spartan Speedway and Whittemore Speedway. Today, Mike and his wife, Liz, devote a large amount of their time to the racing effort. Mike captured Rookie of the Year honors in the Factory Stock class at Auto City, preceding the founding of DGS, in 1999. He added Sportsman of the Year, at the same track and in the same class, in 2007.
In 2010, a couple new drivers were added to the team. Mike and Liz’s boys, Jasik and Michael Jr, started racing karts at Arthur Raceway in Reese.
In 2011, Jasik ran the Lead Sled at Whittemore while Michael made the move to Quarter Midgets, racing primarily in Waterford at the Michigan Midget Racing Association track. There was also a big change for Mike that year as he jumped into a Modified for a couple nights. It was the first time he had driven anything other than a Factory Stock in competition.
In 2012, Mike ran the Mod at Whittemore, the Lead Sled at Whittemore and Spartan, and Michael raced the Quarter Midget at MMRA in the Sr Honda class. Mike put the Lead Sled in Victory Lane at Whittemore and Spartan while Michael conquered a very competitive class and won a feature as well at MMRA.
Changes continued in 2013. The Mod and the Lead Sled both got new owners. Mike his put racing on hold as he worked on a new pole barn to house their stable. Two new cars were purchased for Michael as he outgrew the NC Chassis 1900 he had been racing. He wheeled NC Chassis Kongs in the Sr Honda and Light 160 classes.
2014 ushered in more changes as Michael raced Light 160 and Light World Formula at MMRA capturing an impressive feature win in Light World Formula along with other strong finishes in both cars. Mike raced the Street Stock on a limited basis at various tracks around Michigan.
2015 was a busy year with both Michael and Mike racing a full schedule at Spartan Speedway. Michael transitioned from quarter midgets into the Bandolero division. In Mike's only season racing for points, he won a feature, 3 heat races and captured the championship. Michael won one feature and two heat races. While he finished 5th in points, it was a very close battle with only 12 points between 5th and 2nd. He also was voted Most Improved Driver.
2016 was Michael's last year in the Bandolero and it was a good one. He ran 11 races finishing with 2 feature wins, 1 heat win, 8 finishes in the top three and 11 finishes in the top 5 while securing 3rd in season points.
2017 was another transitional year for Michael as he made the move to stock cars on dirt racing in the 4 Cylinder class at the Mt. Pleasant Speedway. He had a great year finishing 3rd in points with one Feature and two Heat race wins, all while missing a night due to family vacation, and getting the Sportsman of the Year award at the banquet.
2018 was Michael's second and last season in the 4 Cylinder class. While disappointed that a feature win eluded him, he finished 4th in points, won four heat races, lead many laps and had numerous 2nd and 3rd place finishes at Mt. Pleasant Speedway despite missing two nights of racing.
2019 was Michael's rookie season in a street stock. The season started out strong as he won the B Main opening night and drove from 17th to 4th in the Feature. That B Main may have been his only win of the season, but he ran up front in an extremely competitive class that averaged over 30 cars a night attempting to make the 22 car Feature. Near the end of the season, he was 2nd in points. On championship night he was 5th with 2nd in sight but he could have fallen to 8th depending on how the cards fell. When the final checked flag waved, he finished 5th in the race which was enough to place in 3rd in points, one point behind 2nd. The 3rd place standing in points easily put him on top in the Rookie of the Year standings.
2020 Michael raced throughout Michigan in his street stock on some of the most famous dirt and asphalt tracks in the state. He raced at Merrit Speedway, Tri City Speedway, Mt Pleasant Speedway and made a trip to Whittemore to un on the asphalt.
2021 Michael raced at Mt Pleasant Speedway. It was a season of feast or famine. Just 5 nights into the season with a brand new car that he and Mike built he found victory lane! He picked up one heat race win as well. It seemed he was either in the top 5 or getting caught up in carnage on the track.
